The Panasonic Viera TX-P50G10 Our Review

By Michelle Rich

Now everyone is in the market to stretch the pound as far as they can. Panasonic answers this call by putting out the TX-P50G10. This 50" plasma screen TV set is definitely going to be a top performer in this market. This new generation television set comes complete with the newest technology in plasma screen and uses noticeably less power than the plasmas of the past.

One of the biggest concerns with plasma screen televisions is how easily the screen could be damaged. With the new line of Panasonic televisions, like the Panasonic Viera TX-P50G10 they have addressed this issue with the "tough screen" technology. This screen can withstand slight collisions and not be damaged. This is high technology considering the basic features on this model.

Despite the basic features the Panasonic TX-P50G10 TV has an HD television set screen that displays the picture in exacting sharpness. The 1,920 x 1080 pixels let you see the sharpness from across the living room. The ideal viewing distance will be in the TV set operation and manual guide.

Panasonic seems to be playing a game with the Sony Corporation about how many "Hertz" you have in the resolution of the screen of the television. Sony is currently marketing plasma screens with 600 Hertz to display the pixels. Panasonic, on the other hand is stating it has "600 Hertz Intelligent Frame Creation Pro." Then on a sub heading, Panasonic list the letters "sfd" which stands for "sub field drive." Because of the way Panasonic displays the pixels in the plasma screen, the pixels run at 600 Hertz. In all actuality the Panasonic Viera TX-P50G10 is a 100 Hertz television set. It is the "Intelligent Frame Creation" that causes the fluid motion.

The most important thing to look for when buying a television would be the picture. It really does not matter what numbers and letters the company holds up to the technical customer, it all comes back to the picture that you see.

During special wave length tests, it was reported that the Panasonic Viera TX-P50G10 TV exhibited a small amount of flickering, not noticeable to the viewing eye. There were also rumblings of some flickering during DVD movie viewing.

The colour sharpness and clarity only varied slightly from the perfect and the contrast is perfect. Typical of plasma screen televisions, the picture on the Panasonic Viera TX-P50G10 remains the same from different viewing angles.

Even though the mid range TX-P50G10 was listed as being equipped with basic features only, it does include a slot for your SD and SDHC card so you can watch your JPEG and AVCHD pictures and videos. The TX-P50G10 does not offer any other multimedia technology.

The Panasonic Viera TX-P50G10 comes ready to receive all the current types of transmission in use today. There is one potentially aggravating omission though. The television set is not equipped to use the new C1 Plus access that some cable companies are contemplating switching to.

The Panasonic Viera TX-P50G10 is all round very good value for the money. Aside from its limited basic capabilities and the outside chance of being in an area only serviced by a cable company with C1 Plus service in the future, this television comes highly recommended and will give your family many years of good quality television viewing.
